On Tuesday 11th January 2005, Mrs Betty Devlin, Vice-President of St Patrick’s Conference, and Mr Francy Hughes, President of St Mary’s Conference along with Very Rev. Pádraig Murphy, Parish Administrator, made a special presentation to Archbishop Seán Brady on behalf of Trocaire. The tremendous sum of £68,818.67 was collected at all Masses in the Parish last weekend. This was a truly magnificent response from the parishioners of Armagh considering that so many other fund-raising activities for the Disaster Appeal were ongoing in the Parish.
| Armagh Cathedral Parish Trocaire Asia Disaster Collection raises £68,818.67 The Tsunami Disaster has seen a worldwide mobilization of solidarity on a level that is unprecedented. As in all parishes throughout the country, last weekend a special collection for the Trocaire Asia Disaster Appeal was taken up at all Masses in Armagh Cathedral Parish to help support victims of the disaster and to alleviate the prospect of disease and epidemic in its aftermath that threatens the lives of many more people. The members of the two conferences of the Society of St Vincent de Paul in the Parish, St Patrick’s, Armagh and St Mary’s, Tullysaran, graciously organised the collection on behalf of the Parish.
