Society receives £10,000 towards Furniture Service The Society of St Vincent de Paul was presented with a cheque for £10,000 towards our work in helping the most vulnerable in our communities across Northern Ireland. Every year the 'St Joseph's Special Works Conference' distributes donated furniture to people in need. They also supply new electrical and household items to people on low incomes at vastly reduced prices. Last year 1,700 families, elderly people and single parents received 2,400 essential household items such as beds, cookers, sofas etc. Over the last two years more than 7,500 people have made use of this service by donating unwanted furniture, clothes and bric-a-brac and through receiving basic household essentials.
The presentation was made by Mr David Magill, Trustee of Lloyds TSB Foundation for Northern Ireland when he visited the Society's Regional Office on 20th January 2005. Speaking at the presentation Mr Magill said, "The Lloyds TSB Foundation for Northern Ireland is delighted to be able to support the work of the Society of St Vincent de Paul. The money will be used towards the running costs of St Joseph's Conference Special Works Furniture Service and we wish them continuing success with their excellent work in the community". Lloyds TSB Foundation awards between £1.5m and £2m annually in support of the Northern Ireland Community to enable people, especially disadvantaged or people with special needs, to play a fuller role in their community. |
