The course is aimed at unemployed 18 to 25 year olds from North Belfast and is offered 'free of charge'. The main thrust of the programme is to enhance their 'employability' by giving them more than just a driving licence.

The course has proved to be extremely beneficial and many have found employment or have progressed into further education within weeks of completing the course.

Successful trainees awarded certificates after completing 10 week intensive driving course.

The third round of candidates from North Belfast were presented with various certificates by super middleweight boxing contender Brian Magee at Belfast Castle on Thursday 16th March 2006.

The innovative programme has been running since May 2005 and already 60 young unemployed people have successfully completed the course.

Delivered at the Society's HQ in Belfast's Antrim Road through the DePaul Trust, the ten week programme covers pre-employment studies, forklift training, first aid at work and personal and social development skills.

"If it hadn't been for Drive Ahead, I wouldn't be in my current job"

The Drive Ahead Project would like to thank all the other agencies who help with the training such as Down Forklift, Rogers Driving School and the St John's Ambulance Service
