New Shop opens in Enniskillen

<<<previous : next>>>

On 13th June 2009 the Society were delighted to welcome our national president Mairéad Bushnell to cut the ribbon for the opening ceremony of a new clothing outlet "Vincents" in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.

Members of the Blessed Virgin Enniskillen conference also welcomed local church and community representatives, regional council and board members, shop volunteers, staff, family and friends to the grand opening at their new premises at 12 Church Street.

Around 1979 a "thrift shop" opened for a few hours each Saturday afternoon in a disused garage at the rear of 26 Church Street, Enniskillen. There was no charge for the clothes but customers were invited to leave a donation in a saucer at the door.

Since then the shop has also been located at improved premises at Anne Street and Forthill Street.

After 30 years they are next door to where they started - but now on the main street with professional window display, modern shelving units, fittings, mirrors, lighting, changing rooms, sorting and storage facilities.

Everyone agrees its has been well worth the wait and the effort.

Mairéad Bushnell was assisted in her task by the chairman of the Fermanagh District Council, Bertie Kerr and by Monsignor Seán Cahill, who has been spiritual advisor to the Enniskillen SVP for 27 years.

After a celebratory lunch, she congratulated the members on providing such a magnificent shop but reminded all Vincentians that money is not given to them or to the Society. We only accept the money so we can pass it on to the poor and needy.
