Winter Fuel Trust's Generous Donation

<<<previous : next>>>

Echoing Trevor's appeal, SVP Regional President Cormac Wilson said that he was delighted to receive any extra help and thanked the Winter Fuel Trust for their most generous donation.

He called on any older person who is comfortably better off to consider donating their winter fuel payment. Last year alone, the SVP spent almost a half a million pounds in direct fuel payments for oil, gas and electricity to the elderly and families throughout Northern Ireland, and this figure looks set to rise again this year.

Cheques should be made payable to:-

Alliance Lagan Valley MLA Trevor Lunn handed over the first cheque from his Winter Fuel Trust to the Society of St Vincent de Paul at our regional office on Wednesday 4th February 2009.

Speaking at the presentation Trevor Lunn said:-

"I would ask any older person who believes they can do without the winter fuel payment to donate it to the Winter Fuel Trust, so that it can go to those most in need. There are a number of older people who still have a high income and I appeal to them to donate this payment to help other older people who are less fortunate than themselves."

"The severity of this winter underlines the need for more assistance for the most vulnerable people in our society. The Winter Fuel Trust aims to provide extra help in the battle against fuel poverty amongst older people"

"The Trust will gladly accept donations from anyone and is open until the end of February. It will re-commence again next winter and I believe it can make a real difference for the older people hardest hit during the coldest months of the year".

"I am pleased to be working in conjunction with the Society of St Vincent de Paul, and I know I can rely on them to direct the donations to those most in need."
